In 1962 when one of the student violinists of the Bern Conservatory, Alexander van Wijnkoop and thirteen fellow students founded Camerata Bern, they decided to play standing and without a conductor only.

Just four years after their foundation they have become so highly-acclaimed that they set off for a 17-week world tour and have not lost momentum ever since. In its history Camerata Bern has invited fantastic musicians to be their guest artists, for instance Maurice André, Gidon Kremer, Jean-Pierre Rampal and András Schiff. For the 50th anniversary of their foundation twenty composers have dedicated new pieces (one piece by each musician) for the ensemble, among them Heinz Holliger and Patricia Kopatchinskaja who has been participating in their joint work as their artistic director from the 2018/2019 season. On February 8th Balázs Fülei will be the guest artist of Camerata Bern in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy and will play concertos by Liszt and Bach. The concert will be broadcast live by Bartók Rádió.
