Recital at Liszt Academy

The aging Liszt – moving away from Carolyne – was trying to revive his family bonds:

he was striving to spend more time in Bayreuth with his daughter, Cosima but his greatest joy was his oldest granddaughter, Daniela, an excellent pianist who – when returning home for the holidays from the Luisenstift boarding school – was glad to play for his grandfather. Liszt dedicated the Christmas Tree suite composed in 1875 and 1876 to Daniela; its printed version was published years later in 1882. The series consisting of twelve piano pieces was performed for the first time on Christmas Eve in 1881, in a hotel room in Rome, with the twenty-one-year-old Daniela sitting at the piano: this was her Christmas present for her grandfather. This intimate atmosphere and other works by the aging Liszt will be revived during Balázs Fülei's solo recital in the evening of December 8th, on the second Sunday of Advent in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy.
