Beyond composing music, collecting folk songs was Bartók’s most favoured activity; he has mentioned in several letters how much he enjoyed his collecting tours.

His ‘Improvisations on Hungarian Peasant Songs’ was composed in 1920 for solo piano inspired by folk songs collected in Tolna, Zala, Szerém, Csík, Udvarhely and Szilágy counties. This piece by Bartók and pieces by Chopin, Janáček and Cikker as well will be played by Balázs Fülei at his solo recital on May 13th at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest.
